Spinning singles!

I got inspired by theurchiness (Etsy) to try my hand at spinning some singles!

I don’t think I’ve purposely spun singles before; even my Very First Yarn(TM) got plied. It’s much more difficult (I find) than otherwise, because there’s no disguising your inconsistencies in grist or twist; singles just let it all hang out there. As you can see, I have a lot of room to improve yet.

This is ~2oz of mystery wool I got in a destash, spun up on a featherweight Bossie. It’s about 417 yards, not quiiiiite enough for a Citron shawl, but I think with a little bit of gauge modification and a little nailbiting, I might eke one out. It’s so dreamy soft, and I’m not 100% happy with the Citron I made in silk.

  1. I love the color! My Very First Yarn (TM) was used as a single, but I crocheted it pretty tight to give it some integrity. Skipping a couple of rows in each band of the Citron should definitely help fudge it out. Good luck ^_^

    • Thank you! There’s an LSG thread that said that some people had a lot of yarn left over when they made Citron in Mal lace, so I’m a little heartened by that. Fingers crossed!

  2. Oooh it’s beautiFUL! And how the heck did I miss this post when you posted it? 🙂

    • Thank you! Coming from you, that means a lot! 🙂
